Case Summary

Bauret v. Koons

Tribunal de grande instance de Paris (3e ch. 4e sect.), 9 mars 2017, Consorts Bauret c/ J. Koons, société Jeff Koons, Centre national d'art et de culture G. Pompidou, No. 15/01086.

This French case demonstrated that even if a foreign artist’s works are not physically exhibited in France, their appearance in French promotional material for the exhibit is itself sufficient, under French law, to subject the artist to claims of copyright infringement.
