Three New IFAR Honors:Gold Medal of Honor from the National Arts Club
IFAR is pleased to announce that it will receive the 109th Anniversary Gold Medal of Honor from the National Arts Club on November 15, 2007. The Medal will be presented to IFAR at a black-tie dinner in the Tilden Mansion, a National Historic Landmark on Gramercy Park in New York, which serves as the headquarters of the Arts Club. Previous recipients of this distinguished award include the Courtauld Institute of Art and the Bard Center for Decorative Arts. Program

Aldon James, Jr., President, The National Arts Club Remarks in Acceptance Sharon Flescher, Executive Director, IFAR, Editor-in-Chief, IFAR Journal Award of Merit for the IFAR Journal The IFAR Journal, IFAR's signature publication, has won an Award of Merit in the 2007 American Association of Museums' Publications Competition—category: Scholarly Journals. This is the third award that the Journal has received in the AAM competition since 2003. Created in 1998 and published quarterly, the IFAR Journal has subscribers in 19 countries. IFAR acknowledges its senior Journal team: Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Sharon Flescher; Editor, Kathleen Ferguson; and Designer, Allison J. Henry. It also extends a sincere thank you to all the authors and funders whose contributions have helped make this honor possible. Recipient of Annual PADA Grant IFAR is the 2007 recipient of the Annual Grant given by the Private Art Dealers Association. The award, which comes with a contribution of $3,000, will be presented to IFAR in November 2007. As overseers of an organization which for close to 35 years has been concerned with the authenticity, theft, looting, and protection of art objects and cultural property, IFAR's Board of Directors unanimously approved the following statement regarding the cultural heritage of Iraq at its meeting of April 2, 2003:
We urge people not to acquire any object possibly coming from Iraq (or elsewhere) unless there is clear and indisputable provenance. We remind you that the acquisition of or trafficking in stolen artifacts is illegal under the laws of most countries. In the U.S., various statutes, including the National Stolen Property Act, preclude the knowing importation, possession or transfer of stolen objects, and violators may be subject to criminal prosecution. If anyone learns about a looted Iraqi object, we urge them to notify the authorities immediately. Please contact:
