John Richardson: Picasso Scholar and Art World Luminary

This program is a scholarly tribute to the recently deceased John Richardson, art world giant and author of the definitive, multi-volume biography of Pablo Picasso, A Life of Picasso. Mr. Richardson was also a member of IFAR's Board of Directors and Art Advisory Council from 1981 until his passing in 2019. At his death, three volumes of the Picasso biography had been published and the fourth was near completion.

Join us as our distinguished speakers, including Picasso's granddaughter, Diana Widmaier Picasso, discuss John Richardson the scholar, the man, the connoisseur, and author. The three presentations will be followed by a discussion and Q&A period, when our speakers will be joined by Delphine Huisinga, Mr. Richardson's researcher on volume 4, and Michael Cary, who worked with Mr. Richardson on the Picasso exhibitions organized by the Gagosian Gallery. Ms. Widmaier Picasso worked closely with Mr. Richardson as co-curator of the extraordinary 2011 Gagosian Gallery exhibition, Picasso and Marie-Thérèse: L'amour fou, devoted to the relationship between her artist grandfather and his blonde muse of the 1930s, her grandmother, Marie-Thérèse Walter.

A Reception will follow the Talks and Q&A
