On October 19, The Andy Warhol Foundation announced the disbanding of the Warhol Authentication Board effective in early 2012. It will continue to review submissions received by October 19 and will also work on the multi-volume Warhol catalogue raisonné. The decision was spurred, the Foundation said, by the cost of defending itself against recent lawsuits. This program, featuring 6 distinguished speakers, will explore the general issues and challenges involved in authenticating works by modern and contemporary artists; liability issues for those involved in the process; the role of artist-endowed foundations in that process and in over-seeing the integrity of an artist's work; and the implications for the market-place if artists' foundations and other experts choose not to be involved in authenticating works of art.
