Preliminary materials include the author's preface, and an introduction divided into four sections dealing with Antwerp and Infante Ferdinand (the future Archduke), the preparations for the ceremony, the Introitus itself, and sequel.

The third chapter describes the triumphal entry decorations in detail (combining a narrative of the procession with a catalogue raisonné), as well as a discussion of iconographic and historical issues.

Catalogue entries give title of the display, references, comments, supporting documentation (i.e sketches, copies, etc.), and provenance.

Appendices provide specific references for the stages and triumphal arches designed by Rubens, as well as the inscriptions found on them. Several comprehensive indices provide keys to the contents: collections, subjects, other works by Rubens mentioned in the text.
