The first volume contains the texts, with chapters on the Decius Mus story and its sources; artistic practice in Rubens' workshop (modelli, bozzetti, cartoons and canvases); and the production of the tapestries (including information on weaving procedures, later editions and various tapestry sets produced).

Volume 2 contains the catalogue raisonné organized by tapestry scene. There are also Appendices with information on the comission history, auctions of the paper cartoons, records of sets in private collections, and other documents relating to the Decius Mus series.

Published in the series: "Corpus Rubenianum, Ludwig Burchard." This is a study of Rubens' earliest tapestry cycle, depicting Livy's account of the heroic death of the Roman Consul Decius Mus.
