Definitions

Archaeological, artistic and historic monuments and monument zones shall be those expressly designated in this Law and those that may be declared to be so, either through the official channels or at the request of an interested party. (Federal Law of 1972, as amended on 1986, Art. 5)

“Archaeological Monuments”

…movable and immovable property that is a product of the cultures preceding the establishment of Hispanic culture in the national territory, as well as human, flora and fauna remains related to those cultures. (Federal Law of 1972, as amended on 1986, Art. 28)

Competent State Agencies

The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) is competent in matters of archaeological and historic monuments and zones. (Federal Law of 1972, as amended on 1986, Art. 44)

The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBA) is competent in matters of artistic monuments and zones. (Federal Law of 1972, as amended on 1986, Art. 45)

Registry

….individuals and legal entities shall inscribe the monuments they own into the corresponding Registry…. (Federal Law of 1972, as amended in 1986, Art 22)

 …the Public Registry of Archaeological and Historic Monuments and Zones is run by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the Public Registry of Artistic Monuments and Zones is run by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBA)… (Federal Law of 1972, as amended in 1986, Art. 21).
