Summary

Conspiracy to Commit Offense Against or to Defraud the United States, 18 U.S.C. § 371, makes it a crime, subject to a fine, not more than five years in prison, or both, for one or more of the people who have conspired to commit any offense against or to defraud the United States to do any act to effect the object of the conspiracy. If the object offense of the conspiracy is a misdemeanor, however, the penalty for the conspiracy is limited to the maximum punishment for the misdemeanor.
