Summary

The Endangered Species Act (16 U.S.C. § 1538) implemented the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. It prohibits the import or export of certain animals (including elephants) or parts of animals (such as ivory), without both a valid U.S. import permit and a valid export permit from the country of origin.
